Membership

Library membership refers to the process by which individuals become registered users of a library, granting them access to the library’s resources and services. Library membership is typically free.

Here’s how library membership works

  1. Registration: To become a member of the library, individuals need to register by providing certain personal information, such as their name, address, contact details, and sometimes, proof of identity or residency. Registration is done in person at the library’s circulation desk or through an online registration process on the library’s website.
  2. Eligibility: Library membership is granted for the students, faculty, and staff of the institution.
  3. Library Card: Once registered, library members are issued a library card with a unique identification number. This card or number serves as a key to accessing library services and borrowing materials.
  4. Borrowing Privileges: Library members are usually entitled to borrow materials from the library’s collection, such as books, DVDs, CDs, and other resources.
  5. Access to Resources: Library members have access to various resources and services, such as computer workstations, digital databases, e-books, audiobooks, online journals, and other electronic resources. They can use these resources either within the library premises or remotely.
  6. Loan Periods and Limits: Libraries typically set loan periods for borrowed items, and the number of items that can be borrowed at a time may be limited. Loan periods may vary for different types of materials, such as books, magazines, and audiovisual materials.
  7. Membership Renewal: Library memberships are often valid for a specific period, such as one year, and may need to be renewed to continue enjoying library services. Renewal processes may vary, and some libraries may offer automatic renewal services.
  8. Access to Special Services: Our library offers additional privileges to certain membership categories, such as extended loan periods for faculty members, access to special collections, or priority reservations for popular items.
